Storage Device Understanding
Storage devices are computer components and storage media that store digital data within a certain time range. Common storage devices are called Primary Storage or Primary Storage and Secondary Storage or Secondary Memory. Store primary storage such as Random-Access Memory (RAM)
Storage Devices Miscellaneous
a. Floppy disk (floppy)
Floppy disk is a medium used as data storage. The most common types of floppy disks are 1.22 MB. Floppy disk drives (diskette) were introduced around 1970, used to store microcode and diagnostics for large IBM mainframe computer systems.
b. Zip Drive
The Zip drive (disk Zip) is a medium-sized disk storage system, introduced by Iomega in late 1994. Initially, the Zip disk had a capacity of 100 MB, but was later upgraded to 250 MB and then 750 MB.
c. Flash Disk
Flash Disk is a storage device of another type of floppy drive by using a USB type (Universal Serial Bus) interface cable. These flash drives can be read and written, very practical and lightweight with sizes ranging from 50 x 15 x 6 mm. Even for now, the size is smaller with a much larger capacity, to reach 1 TB. For regular data storage, the power source is taken directly through a USB connected to the PC, automatically on the monitor screen will illuminate and and display a message on the screen informing that a connection is in progress between the flash drive and the PC.
d. Hard Disk
Also called the hard disk in the form of a record made of aluminum and coated with magnetic material. The hard disk is already a major component of the PC for the operating system.
e. Optical Disk (Optical Disk)
Optical media that exist today is in the form of CD (CompactDisk). The CD is made of an aluminum plate that can be coated with shiny chrome materials and does not use magnetic material but a reflective material. The first compact disk commonly used in audio systems, is the first application of this technology. Thereafter, optical technology is adapted to the computer environment to provide high capacity read only storage called CD ROM
